Our History
Jose and Martha Jara started their journey together in Los Angeles in 1974 with the aspiration of one day living the American Dream. After being a housewife for 15 years Martha wanted to open a restaurant with her family recipes.
In 1989, the first taco shop opened its doors. A small, heart- felt shop with home cooked meals and a welcoming family ambiance was the start of their first “Jose’s Mexican Food.” Jose’s Mexican Food represents the rural inner countryside of Zacatecas, Mexico where the Jara family is from.
“The concept is a thriving business and people love the energy and culture of Zacatecas” says Jose.
“Mexico is such a beautiful country with many different cultures and ambiances,” says Martha Jara, “this is why we wanted to show another side of my country.”
Twelve years and many experiences later, they have combined the best of service and food to bring you Mi Tortilla Mexican Grill; a perfect blend of culture and cuisine.
Mi Tortilla is truly a unique breakthrough in the restaurant industry. Here one experiences the beauty of Coastal Mexico, where Martha’ family is from, it is a mix of La Paz and Mazatlan culture.
